Allen Ginsberg Collection updated 2/28/2021

It is 6:13 PM I have been searching through my JS blog for a list of books I have in my Allen Ginsberg collection. To my amazement I have not updated that list since January 2005! I have to go down in the basement soon and dig out all the new Ginsberg books I bought over the last three years. I was sure I had a blog entry with recent Ginsberg books. Strange.

February 28. 2021
It is 9:18 AM Sunday morning here in West Michigan. I am writing early because I feel like it plus I need to write down for reference some Allen Ginsberg books I brought up from the lower level this morning to show in a video for my Youtube channel. I am suppose to get delivered sometime today a book I ordered from Amazon the other day titled, ‘The Fall of America Journals, 1965-1971’ by Allen Ginsberg. I plan to show in a future video this new book and these other books in my Allen Ginsberg Collection. The other day I filmed a video showing folks this CD I received in the mail last week “Allen Ginsberg at Reed College: the first recorded reading of Howl & Other Poems” Recorded February 14, 1956 at Anna Mann Cottage, Reed College, Portland Oregon. I could make a video this morning while Carol is gone off to Covenant PCA. But I want to show my newest book in my Ginsberg Collection before showing these books. I have been into the poetry of Allan Ginsberg since High School (1968 to 1970) Richmond CA. I will list the books I brought up from the lower level library this morning-

‘Collected Poems 1947-1997’ Allen Ginsberg

‘The Best Minds Of My Generation: A Literary History of the Beats’ by Allen Ginsberg Edited by Bill Morgan With a Foreword by Anne Waldman

‘Allen Ginsberg: Iron Curtain Journals January-May 1965’ Edited By Michael Schumacher

‘Deliberate Prose: Selected Essays 1952-1995’ by Allen Ginsberg Foreword By Edward Sanders/Edited By Bill Morgan

‘Allen Ginsberg: Spontaneous Mind Selected Interviews 1958-1996’ Preface by Vaclav Havel Edited by David Carter Introduction by Edmund White

‘Journals 1954-1958’ Allen Ginsberg Edited by Gordon Ball

‘I Celebrate Myself: The Somewhat Private Life Of Allen Ginsberg’ biography by Bill Morgan

It is now in the death flow 9:46 AM. I got up this morning around 6:45 AM. When I got up I found my wife reading in the living room. I made a pot of oatmeal for breakfast for Carol and I. Carol and I talked this morning. Carol and I have been talking going on 43 years. I love my wife and love her voice. I have noticed as we get older our voices are sounded old broken down. Our voices no longer sound alive with youth.

After Carol and I ate our oatmeal we talked and then prayed. Carol left around 8:25 AM to visit Reader’s World and then go to Covenant PCA. Now it is 9:50 AM in the death flow. Today is the last day of February 2021. Tomorrow starts a New Month in the Year 2021. This morning we could hear the robins singing which is another sign of Spring approaching.

I got out this morning to read for morning worship a book titled, ‘Reformed Dogmatics: Holy Spirit, Church, And New Creation’ Volume Four by Herman Bavinck. Last night I mainly read from this book, ‘The Life Of Jesus Christ’ Part One Volume 1, Chapters 1-40 by Ludolph of Saxony. I went to bed around 11:30 PM after reading Bavinck on Penance.

redemption is the renewal and transformation of the creation

It is 12:06 PM Saturday afternoon here in West Michigan. It is partly cloudy sunny day. It has been predicted to be sunny most of next week.

I got up this morning around 5:55 AM this morning. I got up and had a typical morning drifting on a death flow. The morning went by and we are now in the afternoon hours. I spent the morning writing in my paper diary and reading from a Crime Novel titled, ‘Maigret And The Spinster’ by Georges Simenon Translated from the French by Eileen Ellenbogen. I finished reading this novel this morning and might do a book review of it for my Youtube channel.

I also read this morning from these two theological books, ‘Concise Reformed Dogmatics’ by J. van Geuderen & W. H. Velema and ‘Systematic Theology’ by Robert Letham.

There is not much else to report this afternoon. Last night I read and watched some television and went to bed around 11 o’clock PM. Now it is another day. Tomorrow will be the last day of February 2021.

There is nothing pressing on my mind this afternoon. I am not sure what I will do this afternoon to keep myself awake. Carol right now is working on a Church Woman’s Bible Study on the Apostle Paul’s Letter to the Romans. I will close to wait it out.

the revelation in Christ

It is 1:53 PM Friday afternoon in the death flow. It is another sunny day here in West Michigan. Slowly but surely Spring 2021 is approaching like the Angel of Death.

My day started around 5:59 AM this morning. I had been awake for awhile before I made a decision to get up and get moving. At my age if you fail to move it slowly becomes impossible to move ones physical self in dead space. When I got up I found my wife reading the Bible. This coming May 2021 my wife would have been married 42 years.

I spent the morning hours doing the usual activities. Carol left around 8:25 AM to have breakfast with an old childhood girlfriend who was in town visiting her elderly mother. While Carol was gone I wrote in my diary, read my books, and filmed a video for my Youtube channel. This morning I read from these two books for morning devotions-

‘The Life Of Jesus Christ’ Part One Volume 1, Chapters 1-40 by Ludolph of Saxony

‘Concise Reformed Dogmatics’ by J. van Genderen & W. H. Velema

I did leave the house this morning around 10 o’clock AM to pick up a coffee bean order and while out visited two local thrift stores to search for used books. Did not come across any interesting used books today to add to our library.

This afternoon I have writing in my diary and reading a Crime Mystery novel titled, ‘Mrigret And The Spinster’ by Georges Simenon Translated from the French by Eileen Ellenbogen.

Caleb dropped off Josie around 12 o’clock Noon for us to baby-sit. Carol and Josie left earlier for our local public library to get books.

I will close now since I am tired. Last night is a blur right now. I did film a video last night talking about the poetry of Allen Ginsberg.

without faith we will not be able to understand the Word of God

It is 12:42 PM Thursday afternoon here in West Michigan. It is a bright sunny day here in the Wasteland. Praise the Lord for the sun and the moon!

I got up this morning around 6:15 AM. It always amazes me that I can wake up and get out of bed. I know men who wake up and can not get out bed without their wives helping them. So I got up to find my wife reading the Bible in the living room. I got myself a bottle of cold water and sat in my chair to wake up to existence in the death flow. After I woke up somewhat I got a cup of coffee and messed with our main computer. Next after messing with our main computer I ate breakfast and then wrote in my paper diary. I have been mainly reading today from one of the books I bought yesterday at Reformation Heritage Books titled, ‘Psalms of The Faithful: Luther’s Early Reading of the Psalter in Canonical Context’ by Brian T. German.

This morning Carol and I had an appointment to get vaccinated at the Holland Civic Center. So we did that and were back home by 11 o’clock AM.

When we got home I ate lunch, wrote in my paper diary, and read some more from the book, ‘Psalms of The Faithful: Luther’s Early Reading of the Psalter in Canonical Context’ by Brian T. German. There is not much else to report. We are babysitting Josie this afternoon. The evening Caleb, Emily, Josie, Cora, and their dog Ollie will be here for dinner and for an early birthday celebration for Emily (her birthday is next week).

Last night I basically looked at all the new books we bought in Grand Rapids. Carol went to bed early and read late into the night from a book titled, ‘The Theology of B. B. Warfield: A Systematic Summary’ by Fred G. Zaspel. I have been reading the writings of B. B. Warfield for many many years. When I graduated from Kuyper College Carol gave me for a graduation gift, ‘The Works of B. B. Warfield’ Ten Volumes.

Well I will close to feel overfed and exhausted.

doctrine in development

It is 2:09 PM Wednesday afternoon here in West Michigan. Outside it is cloudy and in the 40’s. When we were in Grand Rapids today it was sunny, now it is cloudy. We have heard the birds singing so we know Spring is approaching slowly but surely.

I do not remember what time I got up this morning. I must have gotten up around 6:30 AM this morning. I got up to find Carol reading the Bible. I got myself a bottle of cold water and sat in my chair seeking to wake up. We left for Grand Rapids around 8 o’clock AM. While we in Grand Rapids we picked up our taxes at our Tax Man’s office and then we drove to Reformation Heritage Books/Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary. Carol needed to go to this bookstore to pick up Woman’s Bible Studies on the Epistle to the Romans, she needed extra copies for her Church Woman’s Bible Study Class. I had not been at the Reformation Heritage Books Store in years and was blown away at how huge the store/the business has become! I can see now why Reformation Heritage Books in moving into a new building, they need room for All the books. I have never seen so many excellent Christian books under one roof! So I had to take advantage of being there so I bought some books. I was also surprised to see my old friend Steve still working for Reformation Heritage Books. Many years ago Steve and I would talk when Baker Book House had a store here in Holland Michigan. Steve at that time worked for Baker Book House, for many years he has worked from Reformation Heritage Books. So I bought these books for my library-

‘Psalms of The Faithful: Luther’s Early Reading of the Psalter in Canonical Context’ by Brian T. German (Studies In Historical Systematic Theology)

‘Doctrine In Development: Johannes Piscator And Debates Over Christ’s Active Obedience’ by Heber Carlos De Campos Jr. (Reformed Historical Theological Studies)

‘The Spirit of Holiness: Reflections on Biblical Spirituality’ Editors Terry Delaney & Roger D. Duke

‘”Right Reason” and the Princeton Mind: An Unorthodox Proposal’ by Paul Kjoss Helseth

‘Concise Reformed Dogmatics’ by J. van Genderen & W. H. Velema Translated By Gerrit Bilkes & Ed. M. van der Maas

‘The Rise And Triumph of the Modern Self: Cultural Amnesia, Expressive Individualism, and the Road to Sexual Revolution’ by Carl R. Trueman

‘Theologies Of The American Revivalists from Whitefield to Finney’ by Robert W. Caldwell III

‘The Art of Living to God: A Study of Method and Piety in the Theoetica-practica theologia of Petrus van Mastricht (1630-1706) by Adriaan C. Neele

‘The Theology Of B. B. Warfield: A Systematic Summary’ by Fred G. Zaspel

After Reformation Heritage Books we headed back to Holland. When Reformation Heritage Books has a Grand Opening at their new location Carol and I plan to attend. I plan to buy a ton of books at this upcoming Grand Opening. I could easily spend a thousand dollars at Reformation Heritage Books store. They also sell used books which I did not even look at.

Well I need to close for the day. I am tired. I did not get to bed till 11:30 PM last night.

To James Laughlin

It is 4:30 PM Tuesday late afternoon. I usually do not write a second time in my online diaries because I have nothing brand new to share with my membership. But this afternoon I got brave and drove to Holland Rescue Mission Gateway Center thrift store to search for used books. We had not been there in a couple of weeks, so I got crazy and drove there by myself. Carol thought about going, but changed her mind. So I drove over to Gateway to look at their used books and found these old used books to ADD to our book collection-

‘Maigret And The Spinster’ Crime Fiction by Georges Simenon Translated from the French by Elleen Ellenbogen

‘The Collected Later Poems’ William Carlos Williams

‘The American Scene’ Travel Memoir by Henry James (I collect the writings of Henry James and did not know of this travel memoir written by James)

‘Angels & Insects’ Two Novellas by A. S. Byatt (I had this book in a nice paperback edition, this edition is perfect hardback edition)

‘Genet: A Biography’ by Edmund White (I had this biography in a paperback, this is a fine perfect condition hardback edition)

When I got home from Gateway I found my wife cooking and baking in the kitchen. Nothing mind blowing came in the mail today.

Tomorrow Carol and I plan to travel to the city of Grand Rapids MI to visit Reformation Heritage Books/Puritan Theological Seminary to buy books and then stop by the office of our Tax Man to pick up our taxes. We might do some other stuff while wandering Grand Rapids MI tomorrow.

I will close to drift. It is 4:45 PM right now and the sun is still shining. The Lord is faithful.

by faith we understand

It is 11:58 AM late Tuesday morning here in West Michigan. It will soon be once again 12 o’clock PM in the ongoing death flow. It is a sunny day here in West Michigan. Existence keeps flowing by full speed.

I got up this morning around 6:15 AM. I found my wife in our living room having morning devotions. I got myself a bottle of cold water and sat in my living room chair seeking to wake up. After I woke up somewhat I got a cup of coffee and messed with our main computer. Next I made a pot of oatmeal for breakfast. After breakfast Carol and I talked and then had devotions.

Carol left this morning to get her hair cut, visit her widowed sister-in-law and take a walk. While she was or is gone I filmed a video, wrote in my paper diary and read from a book titled, ‘Systematic Theology’ by Robert Letham.

There is not much else to report. Watch my video below if you want to know more.

Last night I read from ‘The Golden Legend’ by Jacobus de Voragine and from another book titled, ‘In Search Of Sacred Time: Jacobus de Voragine and The Golden Legend’ by Jacques Le Goff. I also read late into the night from a book titled, ‘Systematic Theology’ by Robert Letham. Last night I carried down into the lower level several volumes of the Ancient Commentary Series out of my main study and brought up several volumes of Reformed Theology and other theological and Puritan books. I figure I hardly look at my Ancient Commentaries, whereas I am always reading Reformed Systematic Theology and the 17th cent. English Puritans.

So it is now 12:08 PM Tuesday afternoon in the death flow. I will close to drift, read, write, and watch the birds. There is no way out.

the knowledge of our own misery is the broad highway to beatitude

It is 12:39 PM Monday afternoon here in West Michigan. It is another cold gray ugly late Winter day. It has been predicted to get warmer this week, but right now it is bitter cold outside.

I got up this morning around 6:15 AM. When I got up I found my wife sitting in usual place reading. I got myself a glass of water and sat in my chair seeking to wake up to another day of life in this wicked sinful world. Next I made fresh pot of coffee and messed with our main computer. Carol cooked us eggs with toast for breakfast. After breakfast Carol and I had devotions and prayed. Carol left to go grocery shopping and I read from a book titled, ‘The Life of Jesus Christ’ Part One, Volume 1, Chapter 1-40 by Ludolph of Saxony and wrote in my paper diary.

When Carol got home I was outside feeding the birds. I helped carry in the groceries and then we had lunch. After lunch I wrote some more in my paper diary and read from a book titled, ‘The Hermitage Within’ by A Monk. So has gone by existence.

There is not much else to report since my life is radically simple. I am just living as close to the Lord as possible in this fallen world. Carol is the kitchen cooking this afternoon. She plans to take a nap soon. I might also take a nap this afternoon.

Last night I read late into the night from a book titled, ‘The Life of Jesus Christ’ Part One, Volume 1, Chapter 1-40 by Ludolph of Saxony. Yesterday afternoon there was delivered a book titled, ‘The Life of Jesus Christ’ Part Two, Volume 1, Chapters 1-57′ by Ludolph of Saxony.

I got out these books to look at this week from the lower level library-

‘The Theology Of History In Saint Bonaventure’ by Joseph Ratzinger Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI

‘Spiritual Friendship’ by Aelred Of Rievaulx Translated by Mary Eugenia Laker SSND

‘Mirror Of Charity’ by Aelred Of Rievaulx Translated by Elizabeth Connor, OCSO

‘Aelred Of Rievaulx The Liturgical Sermons: The First Clairvaux Collection Advent-All Saints’ Translated by Theodore Berkeley, OCSO & M. Basil Pennington, OCSO

I will close to read and meditate. This is the last Monday of February 2021.

the process of canonization

It is 2:33 PM Sunday afternoon in a icy cold death flow. There was some sunshine earlier today, but now it is gray cloud cover.

I got up this morning around 6:45 AM. I had a normal morning, nothing happened not unusual. I wrote in my paper diary, read my books, and made a video for my Youtube channel. Carol went to Covenant PCA this morning and was home by 12 o’clock Noon. Carol is now taking a nap so she can be awake for a evening worship service. This afternoon I have been writing in my paper diary and looking at a book that was delivered today titled, ‘The Life of Jesus Christ’ Part Two Volume 1, Chapters 1-57 by Ludolph of Saxony. This morning I mainly read from a book titled, ‘In Search Of Sacred Time: Jacobus de Voragine and The Golden Legend’ by Jacques Le Goff.

There is not much else to report this afternoon. It is the last full week of February 2021. Next week we will be in the month of March 2021.

Last night I do not remember much about. I did go to bed early last night due to being exhausted.

I suppose I will close to brush my teeth and take a nap down in the lower level.

everything God does is beautiful (i.e., God-glorifying)

It is 12:13 PM Saturday afternoon here in West Michigan. Today it is cold and partly sunny. Well it is sunny and then it is cloudy, sunny and then cloudy. But it has been predicted to get warmer next week, so that is good news.

I got up this morning around 6:45 AM. Carol was already up writing out a devotional for her Woman’s Church Board Meeting today. I got myself a glass of cold water and sat in my living room chair seeking to wake up to another day. After I woke up somewhat I made a fresh pot of coffee and Carol talked to me about Woman’s Ministry at Covenant PCA. I told her I found it strange there were no ministries directed to the men at Covenant PCA. It seems the men at Covenant PCA are left on their on when its comes to spiritual development. I told Carol I think Christian men are basically left to figure it out themselves/American individualism/the lone wolf mentality among Christian men.

Carol left for Covenant PCA around 8:30 AM. I spent the morning writing in my paper diary and reading my books. Now it is 12:19 PM. Carol thought she would be home around 2 o’clock PM today. This morning I have been mainly reading, ‘In Search Of Sacred Time: Jacobus de Voragine and The Golden Legend’ by Jacques Le Goff. Last night I read late into the night from a book titled, ‘The Beauty of The Lord: Theology As Aesthetics’ by Jonathan King.

I plan to drift through the afternoon hours. Yesterday the fellow who said he could build us book cases came by and came up with a plan to get all the books down in the lower level into book cases. The fellow said he would start when his partner gets back from Florida/start sometime this Summer 2021. Carol and I are thinking of having a Used Books Sale this Summer.

I will close to wait it out.
