the Brahmins of East Coast High Culture

It is 2:05 PM Monday afternoon in the death flow. It is another sunny day here in West Michigan. I think it is in the high 70’s today. Not bad weather for late Summer. I am falling asleep so I better get to the point.

I got up this morning around 7:45 AM. I got up late for unknown reasons. So I got up had breakfast and messed with our main computer. After messing with our main computer I wrote in my paper diary.

Carol and I left the house to visit Fennville Public Library to check out their used book room. On the way to Fennville we stopped at New Richmond Bridge Park to walk. At the Fennville Public Library we found a ton of used books to buy. I will just list the used books I bought (Carol bought 25 used books, which were mostly used children’s books).

‘Lighthousekeeping’ A Novel by Jeanette Winterson

‘Albert Nobbs’ A Novella by George Moore

‘Out Stealing Horses’ A Novel by Per Petterson Translated By Anne Born

‘In the Wake’ A Novel by Per Petterson Translated from the Norwegian by Anne Born

‘The Most Beautiful Walk In The World: A Pedestrian In Paris’ A Memoir by John Baxter

‘The Sunflower’ a history of the sunflower by Charles B. Heiser, Jr.

Kenneth Koch: Selected Poems’ Editor Ron Padgett

‘A Canticle For Leibowitz’ fantasy science fiction by Walter M. Miller, Jr.

‘English Poetry And Prose 1540-1674’ Edited By Christopher Ricks

‘Middlesex’ A Novel By Jeffrey Eugenides

‘Cook: The Extraordinary Voyages of Captain James Cook’ biography by Nicholas Thomas

‘Another Life: A Memoir of Other People’ by Michael Korda (a nice hardback edition)

After checking out the Fennville Public Library we stopped for lunch and then drove home. I am extremely tired so I will close to rest.

a search for God

It is 5:07 PM Sunday evening in the ongoing death flow. I just realized I had not written anything in my online diaries today. Time got away from me. This afternoon Carol and I left the house to go for a walk and did not get home till 4 o’clock PM. When I came home I put away my paper diary and read. While I was reading I fell asleep and then I woke myself up because it was too late in the day to take a nap.

Carol will soon be leaving for Covenant PCA. While she is gone I will sit and probably dozed.

It has been a very long day it seems to me. The days seem long and yet time disappears quickly. Tomorrow is already the last day of August 2020. Soon Autumn will be here and Summer 2020 will be history.

This morning I was up around 7 o’clock AM. I do not know what time Carol had gotten up. These days she is usually up around 5 o’clock AM.

I spent the morning reading the Bible and writing in my paper diary. While Carol was at church this morning I filmed a video for my Youtube channel. Carol got home from church around Noontime. We had lunch and soon afterwards we left to for a walk at Hawthorne Pond Nature Area and then for a walk at Upper Macatawa Natural Area. On the way home from our walk we stopped and got a ice cream sundae. So has gone by this day. I am tired and plan to go to bed early tonight.

This afternoon I have been mainly reading from a book titled, ‘Another Life: A Memoir of Other People’ By Michael Korda. Do not know what I will read tonight if I can stay awake.

While we were out walking this afternoon I did take pictures.

the worldwide rule of God

It is 1:53 PM Saturday afternoon. It is in the 70’s today, so the weather is bearable. It is a blessing not being oppressed by extreme weather.

I have had a typical day thus far. I have no divine right to complain about our existence. I had a normal morning for being old and exhausted. I wrote in my paper diary this morning and then read the Bible The Book of Exodus Old Testament. After reading The Good Book I read from a book titled, ‘Biblical Theology According to the Apostles: How the earliest Christian told the story of Israel’ by Chris Bruno, Jared Compton, & Kevin McFadden.

Around 10 o’clock AM I left the house to visit local thrift stores in search of used books to ADD to our library. I found these used books today-

‘Bad Behavior’ Stories by Mary Gaitskill

‘Cathedral’ Stories by Raymond Carver

‘Landor’s Tower or The Imaginary Conversations’ Nonfiction by Iain Sinclair

‘Thames: The Biography’ by Peter Ackroyd

‘Look at the Dark’ A Novel by Nicholas Mosley

‘Another Life’ A Memoir of Other People by Michael Korda

I was home from my travels around 11:15 AM. I ate lunch and then wrote some more in my paper diary. I also cataloged the used books I purchased this morning into my LibraryThing site. Before sitting down to write HERE I read some more of ‘The Life of Samuel Johnson’ by James Boswell.

Last night I read till Midnight from a novel titled, ‘Baron Wenckheim’s Homecoming’ by Laszlo Krasznahorkai.

Well, there is not much else to report as we experience a world-wide OVID-19 plague. I will close to feel wasted. Tomorrow is a Sunday in the death flow. The last Sunday of August 2020.

no text mirrors phenomenological reality

It is 2:02 PM Friday afternoon here in West Michigan. Carol just got home from getting her hair cut and go in a grocery store for milk and bread. While she was gone I wrote in my paper diary, read from a book titled, ‘Johnson and Boswell: A Biography Of Friendship’ by John B. Radner and dozed. Now I am awake seeking to write something in my online diaries.

I got up this morning around 7:05 AM. I woke up to a gray humid hot morning. We still have the central air system going full stream. Tomorrow is predicted to be back in the 70’s. What we need is rain.

I spent the morning doing what I do every morning. I wrote in my diary and read the Bible/The Book of Exodus/Old Testament. I also read this morning from a book titled, ‘Echoes of Exodus: Tracing a Biblical Motif’ by Bryan D. Estelle. So has gone by existence is a dead world. I feel like going back to sleep. I do not know why I feel so tired these days. It must be old age.

Last night Carol went to bed early and I stayed up late and read from a book titled, ‘Dostoyevsky Reads Hegel In Siberia And Bursts Into Tears’ essays by Laszlo F. Follenyi Translated from the Hungarian by Ottilie Mulzet. Yesterday I received from Amazon these two new books, ‘Dostoyevsky Reads Hegel In Siberia And Bursts Into Tears’ essays by Laszlo F. Follenyi Translated from the Hungarian by Ottilie Mulzet and ‘Baron Wenckheim’s Homecoming’ A Novel by Laszlo Krasznahorkai Translated from the Hungarian by Ottilie Mulzet.

So goes by the month of August 2020. Next Friday we will be in the month of September 2020. I have a dentist appointment next Friday in the morning. I will get my teeth cleaned and checked over. I do not want my teeth to rot. I need my teeth to chew bread.

Well, there is nothing more worth reporting. America is going to the dogs. Demons are howling in the hallways of the White House Washington D.C..

the secret fire of alchemical philosophy

It is 1:30 PM Thursday afternoon in the flow of existence at the end of the American Empire. I woke myself up to make a fresh pot of coffee and write in my online diaries. I fell asleep and my snoring woke me up. I am a tired old man these days. I am worn out due to all the crap going in the United States of America. I am sure that come November 2020 there will be a Civil War going on in America. The forces of wickedness are roaring across America during days of the Trump Presidency. I never seen so such hatred being displayed all over America, especially during the recent 2020 Republican Convention. The Antichrist Beast is roaring every time The Don Trump opens his mouth and his gang of thugs.

It has been a normal day for me thus far. I got up this morning around 7:05 AM. When I got up I found my wife as usual reading her Bible in the living room. I got myself a bottle of cold water and sat in our living room seeking to wake up slowly. Carol got ready to go for a morning walk before it got hot. This afternoon it is hot outside, everything is drying up and turning to straw.

I spent the morning writing in my paper diary, I finished reading The Book of Genesis and will tomorrow start reading The Book of Exodus/Old Testament/Bible. I also read this morning for worship, ‘Biblical Theology According to the Apostles: How the earliest Christians told the story of Israel’ by Chris Bruno, Jared Compton and Kevin McFadden.

I did leave the house this morning around 10:10 AM to visit local thrift stores in search of used books to ADD to our library. I found no used books today/the shelves were filled with junk. I am suppose to get two books delivered to us today by Amazon.

Before passing out from exhaustion this afternoon I read some more of ‘The Life of Samuel Johnson’ by James Boswell (First Published in 1791).

Last night I read from a book titled, ‘A Woman Looking At Men Looking At Women: Essays on Art, Sex, and the Mind’ by Siri Hustvedt. I went to bed around 11 o’clock PM last night, Carol had gone to bed earlier.

I will close to drift. Tomorrow is the last Friday of August 2020.

the dogmatic dictator of literary taste

It is 1:11 PM Wednesday afternoon here in West Michigan. It is another hot day. We have the house closed up and the air conditioner running.

Carol just left to have lunch with a friend. This afternoon I have been writing in my paper diary and reading from a book titled, ‘Boswell’s Presumptuous Task: The Making Of The Life Of Dr. Johnson’ by Adam Sisman.

This morning both Carol and I got up around 6:20 AM. When I got up I got a bottle of cold water and sat in the living room seeking to wake up to a new day. After I woke up I made a fresh pot of coffee and wrote in my paper diary. After writing in my diary I read the Bible/The Book of Genesis till 11 o’clock AM. I dozed for awhile and then woke up to write some more in my paper diary and to read ‘Boswell’s Presumptuous Task’. So has gone by the day thus far.

Last night Carol got home from her Woman’s Book Club meeting around 9:30 PM. She went to bed around 10 o’clock PM. I stayed up and read late into the night from a book titled, ‘Samuel Johnson and the Life of Writing’ by Paul Fussell. I went to bed around 11:30 PM. Now it is another day.

While Carol was gone last night to her Woman’s Book Club I filmed a video for my Youtube channel.

There is not much else to report this afternoon. Carol baked a blueberry pie this morning. This evening Caleb, Emily, Josie, Cora and Emily’s mother Vickie are coming over for pie and ice cream. We had face time on Carol’s phone yesterday evening with Josiah and Marika.

I will close to see what will come in the mail.

an ideal of absolute literary honesty

It is 1:21 PM Tuesday afternoon on a dark stormy day. It has been raining but only lightly. We need a mighty outpouring of rain here in West Michigan. The crops are drying up and soon harvest time will be pass for another year.

I got up this morning around 7:30 AM. When I got up Carol was getting ready to go for her morning walk. While she was gone I ate breakfast and messed with our main computer. When Carol got back from her walk we went grocery shopping. I had not gone grocery shopping since March 2020 because of the COVID-19 plague. I went with Carol this morning grocery shopping because I needed to get out of the house. When I woke up this morning I was in a black mood and did not want to just wallow in my misery, so I went grocery shopping with my dear wife.

When we got home from food gathering I wrote in my paper diary and read some more of The Book of Genesis/Old Testament/Bible. I read the Bible till Noontime and then I got out to read some more of ‘The Life of Samuel Johnson’ by James Boswell.

So this day goes by thus far.

Last night we watched programs on our Amazon Prime television channel. Carol went to bed around 9 o’clock PM. I watched another Amazon Prime program and then read late into the night from a book titled, ‘Samuel Johnson and the Life of Writing’ by Paul Fussell. I also read yesterday more of the novel, ‘Memories of the Future’ by Siri Hustvedt.

Well not much else to report. I will close to see what came in the mail. Existence keeps zooming by.

the mental does not hover over the physical as a Cartesian ghost

It is 12:39 PM Monday afternoon here by Lake Michigan. We rarely go out to Lake Michigan, because there is no reason to. Carol and I are not ones to lay in the sun for a sun tan. Carol and I are not swimmers. So we to not go out to the Lake during the Summer months. I like going to the Lake during the Autumn season.

I got up this morning around 7:20 AM today. When I got up Carol was getting ready to go for her morning walk. I got myself a bottle of cold water and sat in the living room seeking to wake up to another day. When I woke up I ate a bowl of cereal and then wrote in my paper diary.

I read this morning more of the Book of Genesis/Old Testament/Bible. Carol left this morning to go picking blueberries with Josie. Right now Carol and Josie are making blueberry muffins. Josie is not finished with pre-school and would be going to Kindergarten, but her school is not opening due to the COVID-19 plague. Josie will be having classes on her tablet this Fall at home.

After reading the Bible this morning I have been reading, ‘Samuel Johnson: A Biography’ by Peter Martin. I am tired so I plan to drift through the rest of the day.

Last night Carol and I watched PBS Mystery. Carol went to bed around 10:30 PM. I read late into the night from a book I received in the mail yesterday titled, ‘A Woman Looking At Men Looking At Women: Essays on Art, Sex, and the Mind’ by Siri Hustvedt.

Carol and I did go down to the street yesterday evening I have dinner with Caleb, Emily, Josie, Cora and their little dog Ollie. We were home around 5:45 PM because Carol had to get ready to go to church.

I will close to drift through this hot day.

the ancient luxury of a dish of peacock brains

It is 1:45 PM Sunday afternoon here in West Michigan. It is another hot wet day. It rained this afternoon for a short space of time. We need a couple days of solid rain. A good long drench of rain on the dry earth.

I have had a normal day thus far. I got up this morning around 7:05 AM. When I got up Carol was getting ready to go for her morning walk. My wife has terrible arthritis in her knees, but she keeps walking in regardless of the pain.

When I got up I got myself a bottle of cold water and sat in the living room to wake up to a new week. I think this is the last full week of August 2020. Labor Day is coming up soon.

After I woke up I messed with our main computer and then cooked myself food for breakfast. After breakfast I wrote in my paper diary and read some more of The Book of Genesis/Old Testament. I read Genesis and then I read till lunch time from a book titled, ‘The Story Retold: A Biblical-Theological Introduction To The New Testament’ by G. K. Beale & Benjamin L. Gladd.

Carol is resting and I have been reading from a book titled, ‘The Life of Samuel Johnson’ by James Boswell. Amazon delivered a book I had ordered this afternoon titled, ‘A Woman Looking At Men Looking At Women: Essays on Art, Sex, and the Mind’ by Siri Hustvedt.

Last night I read ‘Memories of the Future’ a novel by Siri Hustvedt and went to bed around 10:15 PM. Now it is another day. This evening Carol and I plan to go down the street and have dinner with our oldest son Caleb and his family. We can’t stay long after we have supper because Carol goes to church in the evening hours. This morning she went to church and was home around 11:22 AM. Most churches are closed, but Carol’s church has two services on Sunday, morning and evening services. People wear masks and keep social distancing while worshiping.

I will close to drift and read my books. Existence keeps disappearing.

The Force is very American

It is 2:31 PM Saturday afternoon in the death flow. I realized a few moments ago I should write something in my online diaries before I collapse from exhaustion.

I have had a normal day thus far. This morning we shut up the house and turned on the air conditioner. It is a hot day here and we desperately need rain. We have been watering our lawn the last couple days because the grass is turning to brown straw.

I got up this morning around 7 o’clock AM. When I got up Carol was getting ready to go grocery shopping. She wanted to pick up a few items at Meijer’s before going to our local Farmer’s Market and then out for breakfast with an old girlfriend.

While Carol was gone this morning I read some more of The Book of Genesis and also filmed a video for my Youtube channel. I have been reading this afternoon a novel titled, ‘Memories of the Future’ by Siri Hustvedt. We had our little granddaughter Cora Leigh over this morning while Emily and Josie paddle boated on Lake Macatawa. Emily picked Cora around 2 o’clock PM.

Last night is right now a blur. I do not remember watching anything on television last night. I think Carol read a novel and finished reading it around 11:10 PM. I spent the evening fighting to stay awake and reading, ‘Memories of the Future’ a novel by Siri Hustvedt.

Do not know what else to report this afternoon. Tomorrow we start a new week.
